Lets Look at a Gear Oil Change

The Gear Oil Change is as important as the oil change, though it is my experience that the gear oil should be dropped as soon as you buy it.  Replace the original gear oil with Lucas 80w 90 GL5 Gear Oil and never look back it is really good stuff.  I have replaced it the second time after 200 miles and the gear oil still looked like new.  This tells me that I should be able to get around 800 miles between changes.  Then I'll change it every 1,000 miles or at every oil change interval.

To change the Gear oil loosen the bottom bolt located in this picture to drain the old oil out if you also loosen the other top bolt it will drain a lot faster.  After the old oil has been removed replace the bottom bolt and squirt the new gear oil into the top screw hole until it begins coming back out of the hole.  Once the oil starts running back out of the hole this indicates the gear oil compartment is full.

Well I filled the old girl up tonight on my way back from lunch.  It was expensive! $6.00 for a full tank that will last me another 110 miles I hope.  If more people out there would start thinking about conserving like our for fathers and generations behind us, imagine what the world would be like.  Instead everyone wants a bigger faster higher priced object of their obsession.  Bigger T.V's bigger truck, cars, and SUV's why is it no one wants to think smaller more efficient and turn the damn T.V off!  It is ten times more exciting to go out side no matter where you live and just look around you.  No one needs to be glued to a T.V as much as this society seems to be.  Make your own reality special, go somewhere can't afford the gas, then ride a bike, walk, run, just get out there and make your life's story one someone wants to read!

I received my Roketa Scooter Title Today

Let me tell you it is no big deal to get one titled.  At first I was not sure but the sheriff's office wanted to make sure the VIN and mileage were correct after paying them $5.00 they signed off on it.  I then had the DMV issue me a license plate and tags after showing them the bill of sales I signed a form which they later sent off, and around two weeks later the state of Kentucky sent me my title.  I am now good to go not that I plan on selling it Hell no with gas going up I'm loving it!  Seriously I now have 307.3 miles on it and counting I averaged the last 100 miles at 72 mpg not bad that's with letting it warm up a lot and with it being really cold I'm sure I'll get around 80mpg with warmer weather coming.  Good luck to anyone else out there scootering this time of year and saving a bundle in gas! 

Change Your OIL after at most your first 100 Miles!

Let it be known that I waited until my first 200 miles to change my oil besides the original first oil change when I first unpacked my scooter.  I thought there was no way it could get dirty that fast and I did not want to waste any oil by changing it early.  Well when I did drop the oil it has lots of metallic flakes from the breaking in of the new engine.  Much more than I had expected, this did not hurt my engine but I really would not have liked running that long with the metallic flakes in the oil possibly causing extra ware on my internal parts.

So if I was going to buy a new scooter again for the first time I would likely change the oil for the second time at maybe around 25 miles and then again at 200.  The sticker that will come on your Roketa scooter will tell you to drop the oil after the first 185 miles I thought well an extra 15 is no big deal.  And my scooter is still running very strong but like I said if I was doing this for the first time again I would have changed it as stated earlier.

So what might you expect after your first 200 miles on your new scooter?  Well I can only speak for myself but I drive it every time I see no rain no matter what the temperature I still love riding it like the first day I bought it. Money well spent so far I will update you again on the eagerness to ride it after 500 and 1000 miles.  So far so good no problems only smooth riding top speed so far 60 mph I have no idea what it would do if I opened it up.  I have only had it about half way opened up and get 60 miles an hour but I weigh 137 and stand around 5'5" so there is not much resistance.

Hey Scooter Man this Economy Sucks I want a Raise!

  As many of you know this is a dog eat dog world (and some days I wake up wearing milk bone underwear)!  It's every man/women for themselves and the choices you make can determine what lifestyle your going to be able to handle.  I never wanted to be one of those guys you see driving around in a new truck only to be parking it at the trailer park down the road.  It's like telling the world how successful you are only to be waking up to a harsh reality every morning.  Also your home will under normal circumstances not only hold it's value but appreciate in value over the course of the loan.  While that new truck will feel good the first few months but then the monthly bill, plus the full coverage insurance, plus the yearly property tax bill, and crappy gas mileage will not just drive you insane they will also leave you broke.  And when you decide you've made a big mistake you will soon realize your truck is not worth what you paid for it five minutes after you pull off the lot, further it will continue to decline in value until it becomes near worthless after 12 years. Put your money in your home and spend as little as possible on your daily driver it's the equivalent to giving yourself a raise!
     Think of all of the money in your check then think of all of the pockets that want a piece of it you will never see again?  Cell phone with texting, cable, Internet, insurance, taxes, and interest on outstanding debt.  Now as the saying goes a penny saved is a penny earned if you can reduce your expenses then once again it's like making more money from the get go.  Scootering (my own term) saves gas, reduces auto expenses, and if you save up like I did and pay cash for your new scooter it can save you interest from your other option of buying a more expensive car.  Peace and good luck to anyone reading this blog on surviving this current economy!

Saving money on gas will take a long time right?

Just Looking things over

Not so fast!  Yes it is true that if you have a fuel efficient car one that gets lets say 30 mpg and if your scooter gets around 80 mpg and you drive 8,000 scooter miles your first year your math would look like this;  8,000/30 = 266.7 gallons of fuel used, 8,000/80 = 100 gallons.  Then we take an average price of gas at lets say $3.50 this comes to car = $933.45 versus the scooter at 350.00 for a total scooter savings of $583.45 not bad but the scooter fully equipped taxes paid plus insurance = $1,600.  Here is where the real savings comes from at least I hope.  The car at least for me must be fixed by a auto mechanic, and on average almost every used car I have had cost me on average $1,000.00 bucks a year (think new tires, breaks, battery, muffler, engine).  Now the total savings is looking better, gas plus auto service repair bills being lowered because you are keeping the miles off of the used car and putting them on a new scooter makes for a savings the first year of $1,583.45.  And if you could drive the scooter more than the estimated 8,000 miles you might be able to break the first year even point.  Finally lets compare scooter parts such as batteries, tires, air breathers, and oil changes to the same products for a car.  The price of car tires say on average four tires would be around $400.00, scooter tires brand new are $100.00 scooter oil changes around $4.00 auto oil changes $30.00.  For me at least this appears to be a no brainier.  Year one will save me big time over the same miles in a car.  And for every year after that it just goes ballistic in savings!

I Heard Horror Stories!

 I heard horror stories about Chinese scooters falling about while people were riding them!  Seriously there are stories abound on the net of strange things breaking down and Chinese scooter.  But the deeper I dug I found them on other brand name scooters as well.  It is my opinion that if you order something and it works you may never tell anyone you just use what you bought are happy and go on with life.  But on the other hand if you ordered something and it did not work up to your expectations you might use the net to go freaking off about it.  And with these scooters it is up to the user to fully assemble the scooter and double check the tightness of bolts depending on the mechanic ability of the user this could be a very easy experience or a very cumbersome experience.  I blindly ordered my scooter and after getting it I told myself for better or worse I would help the next guy to know as first hand as possible what the entire experience is all about.  I will add more to this soon and some pictures!!

If your like me and your previously very dependable VW diesel beetle suddenly jumps time for absolutely no apparent reason even after just being given a clean bill of health and blows up, a Roketa scooter might be a good chose for you.  I am by no means saying buy a Roketa scooter!  I have only 135 miles on mine I'm just explaining why I got mine where I got mine and my experience with it so far.  Unlike my motorcycles of the past my scooter has a very short wheel base this means cornering and swaying back and forth on the road is a blast!  It feels as if you are gliding around and not directly connect to a road at all.  My approval rating so far is still a 10 if I break down of course it might fall to 5!  LoL

Why a Roketa Scooter?

Well that's pretty simple I liked the price and look of the Roketa MCR-46Y.  I wanted a brand new Scooter I want to be the first to start it and know that I have taken care of it so that it will get me from one point to another with no problems.  So far it has done just that I know have 135 miles on it and will be posting about my experience from one month to the next and I'll be certain to post any problems or information that might help someone on this blog.  I run only 93 octane in my scooter which is what the owners manual calls for.  When I called around other dealerships looking for a scooter in my home town I was told a Honda scooter of 150cc's would run me $4,500 and it was used.  I looked at different brands but all were around $4,000 to $5,000 and up I thought man I could buy a used car for that!  So what do I have for $1,259.00 shipped to my door well so far I have a very nice product.  Though there is much thought on how to break in a new engine the owners manual calls for speeds under 20 mph for the first 1,200 miles.  I don't know about you but I can't run that slow to work!  I would be killed if I pulled out running that slow.  At the same time I don't want to "drive it like I stole it" so I settled for something in between.  For the first say 30 miles I went under 30 then I creep-ed up to 45 mph then slowly up to 50 - 55 mph and not for long at that speed.  I usually keep it under 45 mph.  The engine is very strong it pulls me up hills with no effort at all and the ride is very enjoyable.  I still need to adjust the shocks they are set to high and I need to adjust them to a middle position for a more soft support on the rear shocks.  The tires also came with about 55 psi and should be let down to 32 psi before your first ride!  

There is ample room under the seat for storage of my work bag consisting of my daily lunch and other stuff I keep in a Kroger plastic bag for work each day.  It comes with a nice luggage carrier but it takes a little longer to open and close so I just keep my rain gear in it just in case I get caught at work and a storm were to blow in. 
I have no idea how fast it will go 60 mph is all I am expecting but so far I am no where near WOT (wide open throttle) I'm only around say half way and reach 55 mph so what will the rest of the throttle bring me I have no idea will post as I find out but not until I hit at least 1,200 miles or so with oil change at 185, 300, 600, 1000 miles to start then I will change it every 500 or so.  It only holds a quart of oil with each change so it's not expensive to change it often.

My New MCR-46Y Roketa Scooter

Hello, and welcome to my Roketa Scooter blog.  I received my Roketa Scooter the MCR-46Y model from www.powerrideoutlet.com I have no affiliation with this company it just happens to be where I made my purchase.  I received my 150cc scooter on January 24th, 2012 it came from well I have no idea of the exact address but I know it came from CA.  I was more than a little nervous ordering a $1,259.00 Chinese Scooter over the Internet!  However it arrived in what I would consider outstanding condition.  It was shrink wrapped in plastic and wire tied to a metal cage, the cage was covered in a cardboard box and the scooter arrived without a scratch.

     Soon I will be uploading a video of me looking it over still in the container in which it was shipped.  The truck that brought it to my garage had a left gate which lowered the 300+ pound package to the ground.  If anyone is considering ordering one of these have two persons to help you unpack your new scooter!  There are many wires to untwist and several nuts and bolts to break free to get the cage away from the scooter as this is happening the scooter is trying to fall.  With someone to help hold it there is no problem without someone it might be more of a situation to get this done possible I'm sure but harder then it would need to be.
     I went by the online directions and drained the oil and gear oil from the scooter into a pan.  I replaced the oil with a Pennzoil 14W40 oil which is what the owners manuel calls for.  I then put Lucas 80w90 gear oil in the gear box and got the battery acid drained from the plastic package into the battery.  This is easy and within 30min the battery is charged on it's own and ready to start the scooter for the first time.  I checked all of the outside visible bolts and found them all to be tight, no bolts were loose.  I also found the oils that came out of the scooter to be clean and what I would consider to be good heavy weight oils.
     I placed the mirrors on the scooter remember if you do this to screw the nut on the mirror all of the way to the top of the mirror then screw the mirror stud all of the way into the hole on the handle bar then tighten the top nut to hold the mirror into place.  The plastic box that fits under the seat is very easy to install this will hold the battery and I put my lunch in it every day to commute to work.  The only trouble I would say I had was in placing the windshield into place and putting the clips and screws into place it did not want to hold into place.  I went down the street to my local auto parts store and bought some more clips and a slightly longer screw this worked perfectly!

     Scooter takes minimal time to assemble and I would rate the quality as 8 or 9 out of 10 it looks great and seems to be well built.  Keep in mind I do not sell these scooters I just bought one and am wanting to share my experience so far in case someone else is considering a purchase like I was.  It is now February 7th, 2012 in Kentucky!  If you are not from Kentucky it is cold here in February though this February has been the warmest I've seen in a long time it is still around 35 degrees F on my ride home at 11:30 PM I work second shift and use this gas saver to put more of my money in the bank and less in the hands of the Big Oil giants!

     My father keeps asking me when the new will wear off!  I ride it whenever it is not raining no matter what the temp is outside.  One I use lots of layers to cover up, second I use leather gloves on my hands and a helmet on my head with a hat like piece of clothing but there is no top to the hat I'm not sure what it is called I got it at WalMart it covers my neck and is a soft warm material.  I wear only jeans and tennis shoes on my legs and feet.  This is a scooter so the wind is broken around my legs and feet and the windshield diverts the air to the top of my helmet which is away from my body so the ride is actually not cold at all but yes it does get cool going home.  I rate the FUN factor of the scooter as a 10 of 10 it is a blast to ride around on!  I'm not going to say what my MPG is yet as I have only ran it 98 miles but it appeared to use little more than one gallon!  I rode the first 98 miles for around $3.80 OMG!  Also keep in mind I only weigh around 135 and stand under 5'8" so not much drag for the bike.

   If you are wondering why I rated it 8 to 9 out of 10 instead of 10 of 10 it would be because the fuel gauge is not working correctly I believe it to be out of adjustment and I have just not had the time to try and fix it.  The gauge shows empty when I still have half a tank left.  No big deal really and even if the entire gauge had to be replaced it's only $15.00 bucks online.  Parts for these scooters are CHEEP! I found a web site called www.roketapartsonline.com which has every part for the scooters at what appears to be a very reasonable price.
